Education:

1962 – engineer,  Faculty of Agronomy and Zootechny, University of Agricultural Sciences Timişoara
1973 – chemist, Faculty of Chemistry, University Babeş-Bolyai Cluj-Napoca
1982 – PhD in chemistry (speciality Biochemistry), Institute of Chemistry Cluj-Napoca of the University Babeş-Bolyai Cluj-Napoca

Scientific activity in biochemistry, molecular biology and nutrition is interdisciplinary, focusing on the domains biosciences – food science, respectively life sciences – food science. The scientific papers (over 330) and the published books (over 30, some of them reprinted) approached the complex problems of metallomics, proteomics and lipidomics. The interdisciplinary character has been put into evidence both in the published articles and in books and treatises.

The interdisciplinarity biosciences – food science reveals aspects refering to: a) metabolisation of nutrients with the connex approach of food supplements (integrated to  food biochemistry); b) biotransformation of xenobiotics, evidenced by publishing the first book of Xenobiochemistry in Romania; c) investigation of some aspects of teratology – starting from the interactions specific for biochemical pathology (patobiochemistry) to physio- and morphopathology (e.g. action of alcohol, metal ions, nitrogen mustard compounds, etc.) on the conceptuses in laboratory animals; d) molecular biology, predilectly oriented to the problems of general agrobiology and agro-food problems.

The interdisciplinarity life sciences – food science is evidenced in the investigation of: a) the adducts of deoxyribonucleic acid – DNA (with metal ions, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, micotoxins etc.); b) the study of the mechanism of heterogenous nucleation in urolithogenesis correlated with the hydroelectrolytic metabolism  and, evidently, the agro-food specificity; c) investigation in vitro and in vivo (on laboratory animals) of the interactions with cytostatic chemotherapics, following predilectly the adducts with DNA (e.g. DNA – cis-platinum, DNA-cyclophosphamide) – used in the domaine of „compared oncology” with therapeutic aspects of veterinary and human interest. In diverse Academic societies are Commissions / Compartments of Compared oncology attached to the Sections of Agricultural Sciences.

The activity  of scientific research was accomplished predilectly in university research departments and research institutes. Initially, the activity of scientific research began at the University of Agricultural Sciences Timişoara, Department of Compared Animal Physiology (1962). Subsequently, in laboratories with biomedical specificity (after 1974). More important studies have been initiated at the Laboratory of Embriology (Compartment of Biochemistry) from the Institute of Public Health Timişoara affiliated to the Academy of Medical Sciences. This laboratory had as domain of researchthe teratogene factors (food xenobiotics, cytostatic drugs etc.). Scientific activity was continued at the Department of Biochemistry-Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Food Products Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Banat Timişoara.
